Optima OPT8014-045 Yellowtop Dual Purpose Battery Review

All About Optima Batteries

Investing time and energy into finding the best battery and charger combination may pay off in the long run. Modern trolling motors can’t function without Optima YellowTop batteries. The boat’s batteries are responsible for more than simply getting the engine started; they also power the boat’s lights, fish finders, aerator pumps, stereos, and other electrical devices.

Choosing new batteries for your boat, however, may be a daunting undertaking since every boat is different in terms of electrical features, engine capacity, and design, and hence has different power needs.

Before making a decision, you should weigh each battery option’s benefits and drawbacks to determine the most suitable for your trolling motor. For example, the performance of the product you will buy in bad weather is essential. Besides, the backup capacity should be at a level that will tempt you. Durability is another feature.

Pros Cons
Reserve capacity It does not run as well as a real starter battery
Power in bad weather Cannot withstand deep discharge/charge cycle
Durability Rarely may there be a problem with charging
Cheap

Who is This Product For?

The prolonged auxiliary power demands of electrical accessories are best met by dual-purpose batteries, which provide high cranking power and low-amp draw (cycling) performance. Absorbent glass mat sealed batteries are among the best options in this category.

Instead of having the positive and negative lead plates submerged in the electrolyte, an absorbent glass mat separates them and retains the electrolyte. The cells are firmly packed with the plates and separator, and the whole thing is contained in a tough plastic box.

Incredibly tight compression prevents plate material from “shedding” during cell cycling, resulting in much longer battery life. Additionally, performance is enhanced at cooler temperatures due to the compression’s lowering internal resistance and maximization of power output.

Compared to flooded lead acid batteries, which provide a depth of discharge of 50 percent for the same claimed cycle life, deep cycling, dual-purpose absorbed glass mat Optima YellowTop batteries charge up to five times quicker and give a depth of discharge of 80 percent.

Fewer gases escape from a sealed absorbed glass mat battery, and the ones that do are usually recombined. However, these batteries also include a pressure relief valve built into the design in case any slight gassing occurs while charging.

Features of Optima OPT8014-045 Yellowtop Dual Purpose Battery

Reserve capacity

The Optima name has been around for a long time, and that’s saying something. One of the most significant marine batteries available is the Optima 8014-045 D34/78 Yellowtop dual-purpose battery.

This little yet powerful Optima YellowTop battery can kickstart a trolling boat and power its electronics. Its 750 cold-cranking amps are enough for most vessels of any size. Its robust propylene structure means it can hold up under pressure, too.

This battery can power your gadgets from start to finish and even do deep cycling. It may last up to three times as long as standard marine batteries. Since it is an AGM battery, it may be installed in any orientation.

Thus, there is no risk of leakage or spillage. In addition, it rapidly recharges and requires no maintenance. The 3-year warranty offered by the manufacturer is among the longest available.

An Optima YellowTop battery’s ability to withstand a discharge of 25 amps for a certain amount of time may be quantified using a measurement called reserve capacity or reserve minutes. For example, the reserve capacity of 120 in dual-purpose batteries would allow them to carry the load for an hour at a 50% discharge rate. This is the same as 60 minutes.

Power in Bad Weather

Use a single marine AGM battery to start the engine and run the trolling motor. Thanks to this Optima YellowTop battery’s pure, non-alloy lead and the industry’s most efficient plate design, the most cutting-edge battery technology is at your disposal.

This Optima YellowTop battery charges faster and lasts longer than standard alloy AGM batteries so that it won’t drain before your next fishing trip. Interstate’s AGM marine batteries have a higher total amp-hour capacity. The lifespan is predicted to be three times that of a standard flooded battery and twice that of a standard alloy AGM battery.

Dual-purpose marine batteries, as its name indicates, combine the benefits of the two most common types of batteries into a single, convenient package. Dual-purpose Optima YellowTop batteries may perform both beginning and deep-cycle functions, eliminating the need for two separate batteries. A dual-purpose marine battery is a great option for boats that don’t have the space to install bigger or more numerous batteries.

It’s possible that generic batteries won’t last as long or provide as much power as those designed for a task, depending on their build and components. However, since its usage area is like this, it mustn’t let you down in bad weather conditions.

Because you don’t want to stay in the middle of the sea with your boat, the Optima OPT8014-045 YellowTop Dual Purpose Battery is a battery that can perform well in bad weather conditions.

Durability

On the other hand, dual-purpose batteries allow you to use just one kind of battery at a time, as opposed to deep-cycle batteries, which also need a beginning battery. Dual-purpose batteries are great for any boat, but they shine when you have a compact vessel that lacks storage room and may benefit from the extra weight and space savings.

For those who would rather not deal with the hassle of setting up two separate battery types to go for a boat ride, dual-purpose batteries are a great option. Dual-purpose marine batteries can only sustain around 90% of the discharge and recharge cycles of a similar deep-cycle battery, but they also serve as a starting battery.

It’s ideal for today’s accessory-laden automobiles because of its superior cranking power and exceptional cycle capabilities (rechargeability). In addition, Optima goods have unrivaled strength because of 40 years of technological advancement and engineering.

This battery offers superior starting and deep-cycle power, making it ideal for winched-up pickups, high-powered stereos, and commercial vehicles. You expect your purchases to last for a long time, most notably if the item you bought is a battery. And if this battery serves double duty, the better!

The reliability of the Optima OPT8014-045 YellowTop Dual Purpose Battery is excellent. It is long-lasting, so you may use it without worrying about wear and tear. Having this functionality is ideal.

Cheap

Because of the necessity for a high-powered charge to start an engine or generator and a lower-level discharge to power accessories like lights, GPS, fish finders, TVs, trolling motors, and the like, dual-purpose batteries are often used in boats and recreational vehicles

There are certain things that a dual-purpose battery can’t do, or at least can’t do as well as a specialized battery, so before you rush out and seek to combine your starting and deep cycle batteries, it’s crucial to do your homework to establish whether it’s a suitable match for your requirements.

It’s recommended to put in two different kinds of batteries, one for cranking and one for deep cycling. However, a dual-purpose marine battery is a good option if your boat is on the smaller side and you can only fit one battery owing to space or weight constraints.

Remember that most dual-purpose batteries won’t start an engine as effectively as a real cranking battery and won’t go through as many deep discharges/recharges cycles as a dedicated deep-cycle type.

You don’t need to spend large sums to meet this need. However, it shouldn’t be easy to find a product that is both durable and able to perform well despite bad weather conditions for such a low price. The Optima OPT8014-045 YellowTop Dual Purpose Battery is a product that can meet your needs and is affordable.

Final Verdict

If you need more starting power than a regular wet-cell battery can provide, look no further than the Optima line of batteries. Small yet powerful in performance, they are ideal for use in starting the engines of cars and boats.

There’s a little something for everyone among the terminal alternatives, including reverse and side posts. Despite its somewhat lower CCA and 55Ah capacity, this Optima 12v battery has a light grey color base, indicating its dual-purpose design inside. So naturally, the main features you will look for in such a product will be durability, bad weather operation, and cheapness. The Optima OPT8014-045 YellowTop Dual Purpose Battery has it all.

Review: Was concerned about the condition of the battery when delivered but it was well protected in the packaging. Also was ready for it to be under charged so I hooked it up to my charging equipment and in just a few minutes it quit charging with the message on screen battery full. Which was nice. I have this yellow top equipped with a savior suspension encase and it is a strong battery. Last yellow top only last 2.5 years and for the last 4 months have been charging and refreshing and it just lost it cranking power so it was time. So almost 3year life. That’s normal for the yellow top optima. But if you have accessories like I do ,electronics, amplifiers, etc ,this is the battery 40 years history proven the right choice.

Review: They aren’t lithium, so they won’t explode. They only lose about 1% charge per YEAR while stored. Won’t leak. Amazing batteries!!!

Review: I have one that is over 12 years old, still going strong, but since the company sold, I have heard that they don’t hold up as well. We will see with this one.
